Everybody Is Somebody On the Internet

InternetIn 1899, Commissioner of the U.S. patent office Charles H. Duell uttered his famous misquotation. Over 100 years ago, this man said, “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”

Consider for a second if this were really the case. Consider all that would not exist: computers, cell phones, electronic televisions, powered airplanes, antibiotics, iPods, and the list goes on and on.

If inventions ceased to be created after 1899, the world would be a dull place to say the least. It is hard to pinpoint which of these inventions the world could not live without. It would appear that they all depend on one another. The most relevant of these inventions, however, in a strictly personal opinion, would have to be the Internet. The Internet has allowed for people to virtually discover the world and learn about the lives that lie outside their own.

The internet has allowed regular people to discover their passions and have shown them they are not alone it what excites them. Now we can discover someone a million miles away sharing our love of something, regardless of what that “something” is.
